Early Life
Schindler was born in Zwittau, Moravia, Austria-Hungary (present-day Czech Republic) on April 28, 1908, in a Sudeten German family. When he was younger, his neighbors were Jewish Rabbis, this created a somewhat friendly relationship between him and his Jewish workers later on in his life. Schindler was not a very good student, after he finished primary and secondary school, Schindler enrolled in a technical school, in which he was later expelled from for forging his report card, he graduated but did not go on to college. Instead he attended a series of trade schools in Brno (second largest city in present-day Czech Republic) and for the next 3 years he also began working in his father's farm machinery business,

until he married Emilie Pelzl on March 6 1928. Oskar's marriage to Emilie caused their split. However, Oskar was an alcoholic and a womanizer, he was arrested multiple times for public intoxication, he also had many affairs with women such as Aurelie Schlegel, who supposedly had his daughter Emily, and son Oskar Jr. Schindler denied that they were his children. After Hitler's seizure of Sudetenland, for business purposes, Schindler joined the pro-Nazi German Sudeten German Party.

After Hitler took Czechoslovakia(Sudetenland), Sudeten Germans had to join the Sudeten German Party, so that they aren't labeled as Communists or Social Democrats.

Shortly after becoming a Nazi, in 1936 he became a spy for the Abwehr, the Nazi German intelligence organization. Because of his frequent business visits to Poland, he was asked to collect information about Polish military activities and railways for the planned invasion of Poland. After Germany's occupation of Poland, in October 1939, Schindler moved from Svitavy to Krakow and started his enamelware company.
